Attitude, plus a little funny

A friend of mine at work has this posted at her desk. It's Charles Swindoll's take on attitude. It's so good and true and I just thought someone might need to hear it like I do these days. If you knew some of the people that I work with, you'd know why :)

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We canot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will react in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes."
-Charles Swindoll

Now, onto the funny part of this post...Collin's mom sent this to us yesterday and it's hilarious. Make sure you watch it with the volume turned up.

Can you tell that I've been bored at work today?!?

Announcing Eden Elaine Vann!

I've been working on this birth announcement for my sweet new niece. Isn't is cute?!

We have a niece!

Eden Elaine Vann made her dramatic entrance into the world at around 1:30 this afternoon! Carissa's labor was progressing normally all morning. The epidural was working, her contractions were a consistent length apart, Eden's heart rate was normal - things looked good. When it came time to push, sweet little Eden wasn't liking it and her heart rate jumped down to 30. The doctor said she hadn't seen that happen in 20 years of delivering babies! The doctor and nurses started to panic and from that point on, things happened fast. They ended up doing an emergency c-section to get the baby out and Eden was here within 15 minutes of that whole ordeal! Turns out that she had a cord wrapped around her neck and now that she's here, she's perfect! She weighed in at 7 lbs. 1 oz. and is 18.9 inches long. She's wonderful and we all love her so much already! She has a little bit of light colored hair and the sweetest little chubby cheeks! We were joking that any baby born into the world like that is going to be a drama queen :)

Carissa is understandably exhausted but is doing well. Nick is a very proud papa and it's so fun to see! Here are some pictures of sweet baby Eden:

My Favorite Cupcakes

I love getting new recipes, especially for things that are super easy and really yummy! These cupcakes are not good for you so if you're looking for something even remotely healthy, this is not the recipe for you. It makes 2 dozen cupcakes so it's great if you need something easy to take with you to feed a large group of people.

You will need:
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 package of 24 ready-to-bake chocolate chip cookies
  • 1 can of chocolate frosting (I use the whipped kind)
Make the cake mix as directed on the box. Fill your muffin cups about 2/3 of the way full. Place a chocolate chip cookie in the center of each muffin and gently push to the bottom. They will look like this:

Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes. Once cool, frost with icing. They are so easy and very totally scrumptious! Enjoy!

We're about to have a new addition to the fam...

We found out yesterday that Collin's sister, Carissa, who is expecting her first baby will be induced on Thursday morning! We are so excited! Carissa's due date was May 5th but they have decided that since she's full term and because she's had some minor issues, that they're going to induce! So, come April 24th, we will be Uncle Collin and Aunt Kristin! We are so eager to see this precious little girl and to hold her in our arms. I cannot wait to see who she resembles most!! Please pray with us for a safe delivery and a healthy baby. Stay tuned for pictures!

A BIG praise, plus a little disappointment...

We found out in March (on our anniversary, actually...what a great gift!) that our law suit has been settled and we will not be going to trial (to read about it, click here)! YAY! We never had to pay anything out of pocket and are so grateful for that. This whole ordeal has been ridiculous and we're so glad to be putting it behind us!

Now for the disappointing news...I showed up on Tuesday for jury duty, all excited to do my duty as a citizen and see that justice was served in whatever case I might be given. Sadly, I was not given that opportunity. And I was actually really surprised at how boring it was. It was quite overcrowded - I had to park 3 blocks away and walk. I have always been fascinated with the judicial system and I still think it would be cool to actually sit on some* juries, but I'll have to wait until next time. And, a note to the wise...if you get called for jury duty, definitely take a book. I was really wishing that someone had mentioned that to me before I went!

*I say "some" juries, because I only would want to be on the jury of a traffic case (like ours!), a financial matter, a car jacking, theft, etc. Nothing to do with murder, rape, etc. I know that you cannot help what case you are handed, but I'm just sayin'...
